A plentiful supply water to the Alcazaba was essential particularly in times of siege. This was the Moor solution and built around 835AD to filter and store water from the River Guadiana. The aljibe or cistern still holds water but is, as you will see from the following photos not used to supply drinking water but as a goldfish tank.
