The rocks you can see in this (and the other photos) are all limestone. They are the result of the accumulation of shells and skeletons of marine animals deposited in successive layers on the floor of an extensive sea that covered this area around 200 million years ago.

Around 20 million years ago the carbon sediments (already transformed into limestones) were compressed, deformed and fractured until they emerged in a slow and continuing process that continues to this day.

The limestones have since remained exposed to atmospheric weathering and erosion agents.
